Favorite Quotes:
"Survival of the world depends on our sharing what we have, and working together. If we do not, the whole world will die. First the planet, and next the people."
– Frank Fools Crow, late Lakota Medicine Man

"In a real sense, all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the inter-related structure of reality."
-- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"There is a hue and cry for human rights -- human rights, they said, for all people. And the indigenous people said: What of the rights of the natural world? Where is the seat for the buffalo or the eagle? Who is representing them here in this forum? Who is speaking for the waters of the earth? Who is speaking for the trees and the forests? Who is speaking for the fish, for the whales, for the beavers, for our children? We said: Given this opportunity to speak in this international forum, then it is our duty to say that we must stand for these people, and the natural world and its rights; and also for the generations to come."
-- Chief Oren Lyons, Chief of the Onondaga Nation and the Iroquois Confederacy, in his account of speaking to the United Nations in Geneva

Elder's Meditation
"It's time Indians tell the world what we know... about nature and about God. So I'm going to tell you what I know and who I am. You guys better listen. You got a lot to learn."
--Mathew King, Lakota Elder

"A long time ago the Creator came to Turtle Island and said to the Red People - "You will be the keepers of the Mother Earth. Among you I will give the wisdom about nature, about the interconnectedness of all things, about balance and about living in harmony. You Red People will see the secrets of nature. You will live in hardship and the blessing of this is you will stay close to the Creator. The day will come when you will need to share the secrets with the other people of the earth because they will stray from their spiritual ways. The time to start sharing is today."

Oh Great Spirit, today I am ready for You to use me as a channel of Your peace. Let my walk today be visible so the people will say "There goes a Man of God." I want to know what He knows. If they ask, I will tell them to go out into the wilderness and pray for You to guide them.

Religious Philosophy

There’s not a Baptist moon
And a Methodist tree
There’s not a Buddhist river
That flows to a Jewish sea
There’s not a Hindu sun
On a Catholic plain
A fundamentalist cloud
With agnostic rain . . .
Every creature’s a preacher
A voice of the Creator . . .
Split a piece of wood
Break open a stone
And there you’ll find
The Divine on Her throne.
-- Roger Housden
